aCCEPTING THE rEAL chRIST

In this second week of Advent, we will continue our journey of longing for Christ with the Israelites. As they longed for their Messiah, what were they to be looking for? In Isaiah 35, the prophet provides a beautiful picture of the Messiah’s work and what his arrival would look like. Both then and now, it is important for us to recognize the work of Jesus. Many people waited for Christ to come, but not all who waited for him recognized his arrival. In this Advent season, may we learn to see the work of Christ and join him in his work to make all things new.

summary

Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you.”
Isaiah 35:3-4

PRACTICES THIS WEEK

Today is the 2nd Sunday of Advent. Advent means coming.

We light this candle as a symbol of the coming light of Christ.

We read in Malachi 3:1:

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

God sent John the Baptist ahead of Jesus to prepare the way for his ministry. With his call to repentance, John prepared the people for the healing, restoration and salvation that Christ would bring to them. In this Advent season, God is inviting us to prepare the way for Christ as we display his love, grace and mercy to the world around us. Holy Father, by the power of your Spirit, may the light of your Son Jesus Christ burn bright in your Church both now and forever more.
